This page lists what Avarni accepts in the Country and Input Unit columns of an upload.

Use the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code. Two letters, in capitals.

Three-letter codes and country names are rejected. Use capitals: a lower-case code can pass the first check and then fail later when Avarni looks up the region.

Country is required on every row and must be mapped during upload. If a row has no country, Avarni uses the default country you set for the import.

Do not put a state or province in the Country column. There is no AU-NSW or US-CA form.

To get a state, province or grid factor, map a column to Location/Address instead. Put the site address, or the suburb and state, in that column. Avarni finds the point on the map and narrows the factor to the region that covers it.

Without a location, Avarni uses the national factor.

A market-based Scope 2 upload accepts only AU and NZ. Any other country is rejected with an error.

The unit you enter must belong to the unit type you set on the Method. A Method built for Energy will not accept litres.

You can enter the full name or a common abbreviation. Spelling must match the list below. If you are unsure, pick the unit from the dropdown in the importer rather than typing it.

tCO2e and Co2e are for emission figures entered directly in the Emissions Hub or given in a supplier survey answer. Do not use them as the unit in a Method upload. See Load historical and prior-year data.

Use the three-letter ISO currency code in capitals.

These exist in the platform but you cannot select them as an upload unit type: Hour, Kilogram Per Day, Gigabyte, Kilobyte, Megabyte, Terabyte, Kilometers Per Year, Meters Per Year, Square Meters Per Year, Gigabytes Per Hour, Terabytes Per Hour.

Avarni converts your unit to the factor's unit before it multiplies. Litres convert to kilolitres, miles to kilometres, and so on.

Two things stop a conversion:

Avarni does not warn you on screen when a unit conversion fails. Check the unit conversion line in the calculation breakdown on an emission. A rate of 1.0000 between two different units means no conversion happened.

A unit of Unknown sets the emission to zero.
