A Method decides how your uploaded data becomes emissions. It sets the scope and GHG category, and it assigns an emission factor to each row.
Methods sit under Imported Data.
Create a Method
Go to Imported Data.
Select Create New Method.
Enter a Name.
Select Create new method.
A new Method is not empty. Avarni copies a default Method into it, which you then adjust.
Tab 1. Calculation type
Set what the Method produces:
GHG Category, and a Fallback GHG Category for rows whose matched factor has no category.
Unit Type. Search for a unit such as kWh, L or AUD and Avarni selects its unit type. Your file can contain any number of units of that same type.
Allowed Date Range.
The date range is enforced at import. If a row carries a date outside the range, the importer rejects that row. The Method itself does not expire.
If you change the year on either end of the date range, Avarni clears the saved AI matching rules on every branch. Set the date range before you tune your branches.
Tab 2. Factor Assignment
This tab holds your branches. Each branch has conditions and one action.
Branches run top to bottom, and the first branch whose conditions match a row wins. Later branches never see that row.
The labels on screen follow that order. The first branch reads "First, check if". Each branch after it reads "If above criteria aren't met, then check if:".
Add a branch
Select Add Branch. The new branch appears at the bottom.
Select the edit icon on the branch and give it a Branch Name.
Add your conditions.
Set the action.
Select Done.
Drag a branch card to move it. Avarni renumbers the branches when you drop it.
Conditions
Conditions sit in groups. Criteria inside a group join with AND. Groups join with OR. The branch runs if any group is satisfied.
Use Add Criteria to add a condition to a group, and Add Group to add an alternative set.
You can build conditions on Amount, Activity Class, Country, Date, Description, Location or Address, GHG Emission Category, Input Unit, Invoice Number, Utility Account Number, Utility Meter Number, Entity, Facility, Supplier Name and Scope.
Text conditions offer Contains, Contains Keywords, Starts With, Ends With, Is In, Is Empty and their negatives. Number and date conditions offer the comparison operators.
The action
Each branch has one action. Two types are available:
Set Factor. You choose the factor and, if you want, set field values such as GHG category, entity, facility and custom fields. Leave a field empty and Avarni uses the value in your uploaded file.
Map Factors with AI. You choose a factor set and Avarni selects a factor per row.
You cannot type your own factor value into a Method. Add a custom factor first under Settings › Emission Factors, then select it here.
To exclude matching rows, choose a factor first, then set the status to Exclude. The status controls stay disabled until a factor is set.
The Fallback branch
One Fallback branch sits at the bottom, labelled "If none of the criteria are met, go here:". It catches every row no earlier branch matched.
You cannot delete, clone or disable it. Set its action to whatever you want unmatched rows to receive.
Save
Select Save. Each save creates a new revision, so your earlier configuration is kept.
Copy a Method
Select the copy icon on a Method in the list. The copy stays in the same organisation.
Limits
Method name: 120 characters.
Description: 500 characters.
Any single condition value: 200 characters.
