Track your suppliers' SBTi targets

The Science Based Targets initiative publishes a register of companies that have committed to, or already set, science-based emission reduction targets.

Avarni matches your suppliers against that register. The SBTi Targets screen shows you which of your suppliers appear in it, and what each one has committed to.

Go to Suppliers, then SBTi Targets.

Where your supplier list comes from

You do not add suppliers to this screen. The list is built from the supplier names in the data you have already uploaded.

Avarni loads the SBTi register and matches each supplier to it by company name. The match happens once, when the supplier first appears in your data.

Name matching is not perfect. Avarni strips legal suffixes such as Ltd and Pty before it compares, and it knows a small set of common acronyms, but a supplier recorded under a trading name or a misspelling will not match. You can correct any match by hand.

The three match states

Each row is in one of three states. The row colour tells you which.

State

What it means

Unmatched

Avarni found no company in the SBTi register with this name.

Matched

Avarni found a company and linked it. Nobody has checked it.

Confirmed

Someone at your organisation has checked the match and confirmed it.

Use the All, Matched and Not Matched buttons above the table to filter.

The summary tiles

Tile

What it shows

Matched

The share of your supplier spend that belongs to a matched supplier, whether confirmed or not.

Matched Amount

That spend as a figure.

Suppliers

How many suppliers are in the list.

Unmatched Amount

Spend with suppliers that did not match.

The bar below the tiles splits the same spend into Confirmed, Matched and Unmatched.

These figures count spend only. Activity data that you uploaded in kilowatt hours or litres does not appear in them.

Use the date range to limit the tiles and the table to a reporting period. This FY and Last FY are shortcuts.

Fix a match

Double-click the SBTi Company cell on any row. Search the register and select the right company. Avarni saves the change straight away.

To remove a match, clear the cell.

You can also change the match from the details panel. Select View Details on a row, then use the picker under SBTi Company Information.

Confirm a match

When you have checked that a match is correct, confirm it.

Select the icon in the Confirmed column, or open the details panel and select Confirm Match.

Confirming does not change any number. It records that a person checked the match, which is what an auditor will want to see.

You cannot confirm a supplier that has no match.

Changing the company on a confirmed row does not clear the confirmation. After you change a match, check it again before you rely on the Confirmed mark.

Read the target

The table shows one disclosure per supplier. A company that has made several disclosures shows its most recent target first.

Column

Values

Disclosure Type

Commitment, or Target. A commitment is a promise to set a target later. A target is a target that has been set and validated.

Target

Near-term, Long-term, Net-zero, or Long-term pre-CNZS.

Target Type

Absolute, Intensity, Engagement, Renewable electricity, Net-zero, or Other.

Status

Target Set, Active, Removed, or Extended.

Commitment Type

Standard, Net-zero, or one of the Business Ambition 1.5 options.

Scopes

Which scopes the target covers.

Deadline

The date by which a commitment must become a target.

To see every disclosure a company has made, open the details panel and expand Commitments. To read the target in the company's own words, expand Target Language.

What to do with this

A supplier with a validated near-term target is reducing its emissions, and your Scope 3 from that supplier should fall over time.

A supplier with a commitment but no target has a deadline. Check whether it has passed.

An unmatched supplier is not necessarily absent from the register. Check the large ones by hand before you conclude anything about coverage.
