What does Avarni’s AI actually do?

Avarni’s AI specializes in accurately mapping emission factors to any spend or activity data it receives. This capability significantly automates what was previously a manual and time-consuming process. Specifically, the AI supports the mapping of emission factors for Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions categories. These emission factors can either be pre-included in Avarni’s system or custom factors uploaded by users.

The AI performs this mapping by analyzing provided Activity Class, Description, and Supplier information. This allows organizations to more efficiently track and manage their environmental impact, ensuring they can make informed decisions towards sustainability goals.

What methodology does Avarni use?

Avarni is built on the GHG Protocol, the global standard for carbon accounting which is compliant with all reporting frameworks, including CDP, GRI and TCFD.

When does Avarni update emission factors?

Avarni updates emission factors when sources are updated. Refer to Emission Factors in Avarni for more information.

What happens if Avarni does not have the required emission factors? Can Avarni utilize private emission factors?

Users have the capability to upload custom emission factors to the platform. Refer to our guide on uploading custom emission factor sources for further instructions.

Note: Private emission factors are required to be licenced by the organization.

Does Avarni remember emission factor mappings?

Yes. Avarni retains the emission factor mappings from previous uploads when the Activity Class, Description, and Supplier's details are identical, and when the status is changed to Reviewed, Flagged or Excluded.

For example:

How does Avarni support supplier mobilization and engagement?

Avarni enhances supplier mobilisation by empowering enterprises and consultants to refine the quality of their Scope 3 emissions data. After having our AI mapped the emission factors against the secondary spend and activity data uploaded in the platform, Avarni enables enterprises and consultants to engage with their suppliers directly, utilizing questionnaires to gather primary emissions data. This data is essential for making more accurate Scope 3 emissions calculations.

Furthermore, Avarni actively supports suppliers in their sustainability efforts by providing a free platform instance. This tool allows suppliers to report and measure their carbon emissions efficiently and at no extra cost. It also offers actionable insights and tools to help suppliers embark on or advance their decarbonization journeys, facilitating a collaborative approach to reducing emissions across the supply chain.

We are currently working on our supplier engagement feature in v2 and will provide an update when this is available. In the meantime, if you would like to learn more about our supplier engagement feature in v1, click here.

How does Avarni support users in interpreting emissions data and making informed decisions?

Avarni provides comprehensive dashboards, hotspot identification, and forecasting tools that allow users to visualize and interpret emissions data easily. These features facilitate scenario analysis, helping organizations strategize their decarbonization efforts and make data-driven decisions.

Can multiple users from the same organization access Avarni simultaneously?

Yes, multiple users from the same organization can access Avarni at the same time.

This feature supports collaborative efforts in emissions tracking, data analysis, and decision-making processes, enhancing team efficiency and productivity.

Can data be extracted from the Avarni platform?

Yes, all data can be exported out of the platform for use in reporting and other programs.

For more information on how to extract data, click here.

How does currency conversion work in Avarni?

Avarni automatically converts the currency that has been uploaded, depending on the emission factor used. This conversion is facilitated through the currency rates obtained from www.exchangerates.org.uk, which serves as our source for current exchange rates.

For example: EPA uses USD, DEFRA uses GBP, and EXIObase uses EUR. If you select EPA (USD) as your emission factor database, but your data is in Canadian Dollars, Avarni will automatically convert the currency based on www.exchangerates.org.uk. For additional details on emission factor sources in Avarni, refer to our user guide here.

How does Avarni keep customer data secure?

All of Avarni’s data is stored on the cloud (AWS) in an ISO 27001 and SOC 2 compliant environment, and is encrypted in transit and at rest. Avarni has also performed penetration testing on its platform, with no medium or high risk vulnerabilities found and sound security practices certified by a third party.

How do I reset my password?
